• The nine men and women on the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will
meet this morning to begin their interest rate deliberations still bearing
the bruises from their meeting last month.
• David Blanchflower denied being a dove, saying: “I am as hawkish as
anyone about keeping inflation on target.”
• The USD suffered a sell off after a well below forecast US January
manufacturing ISM, which dropped below the key 50 level to 49.3.

US Dollar:

• Fed Officials, Who Are Debating Whether To Adopt An Explicit Target For Inflation, Have Discussed
Whether An Implicit, Or "Soft" Target, Might Be Preferable (WSJ)
• FX markets are focusing on the US employment report meeting in Essen.

Pound:

• CIPS construction PMI from the UK released at 0930GMT
• GDP in the fourth quarter was reported as growing 0.8 per cent by the Office for National Statistics last
month. The 3 per cent year-on-year rate was the strongest in two years.

Euro:

• It's a fairly light European calendar for Friday, contrasting with the US data calendar, which includes
the US labor market data.
• European data starts at 0800GMT with Spain unemployment for January and industrial production for
December. December Euro zone industrial PPI at 1000GMT, which is expected to come in unchanged
on the month, up 4.1% y/y.

General News:

• The FTSE 100 is seen opening around 13 points higher at 6,295 having closed up 79.1 points at
6,282.2 yesterday.
• On the macro front, today's trading session will be dominated by January's US non-farm payrolls numbers,
expected to have risen by 150,000, compared with a monthly gain of 167,000 in the previous
month.
• Big release of the day: 13:30 US Nonfarm Payrolls Jan Prev 167 vs Exp 150
• The unemployment rate in the US is forecast to have remained steady at 4.5 pct in November compared
with October.
• Meanwhile, US factory orders are expected to have risen by 1.0 pct from November to December
